Chiropractic is a safe and effective manual therapeutic approach used to diagnose, treat and manage conditions related to the musculoskeletal and/or nervous system. Chiropractors utilize a number of specialized techniques in order to treat these conditions, including spinal or joint manipulation (sometimes referred to as “chiropractic adjustments”) and soft tissue therapy techniques – aimed at improving movement and mechanical function of joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue. Chiropractors use their extensive knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy & physiology and the nervous system in order to diagnosis a condition and create an effective plan of management. Chiropractic is also effective in the maintenance of healthy spinal motion and good physical health when combined with lifestyle, exercise, postural advice and education. In Ontario, Chiropractors are one of a small number of health professionals that have a legal responsibility to diagnose disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

On your initial visit, your Chiropractor will perform a thorough history and physical examination to accurately diagnose the nature, location and extent of your injury/condition. Next, they will explain the types of treatments and services that are recommended, the approximate length of the treatment plan and any other pertinent information pertaining to your condition. During a treatment, chiropractors may use a number of therapies to help your condition heal and recover more quickly. Most commonly, spinal or joint manipulation is used to stimulate and restore movement to an area or joint that is stiff, tight, or moving poorly. As well, specialized therapies may be applied to the local muscles and soft tissues in order to improve mobility/flexibility, reduce tension and swelling, speed healing and recovery, and ease discomfort.

Physiotherapy is a vitally important component of a comprehensive approach to physical health and can have a profound impact on the healing and rehabilitation of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Physiotherapists are specially trained to create individualized physical therapy programs – whether the goal is to reduce pain, improve function, or increase strength and flexibility. Physiotherapy is also an effective way to manage injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents, work place injuries, for post-surgical recovery and for pre-surgical “pre-hab”. The programs designed by a physiotherapist can help speed recovery, promote a more active and independent lifestyle and support physical disabilities.

During your initial physiotherapy visit at our clinic, the physiotherapist will undertake a thorough assessment of your condition and determine goals for improvement, rehabilitation and recovery. The physiotherapist will collect and analyze important information that is essential in the creation of an effective therapeutic program. Physiotherapy treatment may include manual therapy, stretch-strengthen and/or mobility programs, improving balance and coordination, modalities including electrotherapy, TENS, ultrasound or IFC. In addition to treatment of the musculoskeletal system, a physiotherapist may also provide advice regarding the maintenance of physical health and injury prevention.
